ELLA GRACE WANNANUMBAWAYHOURS

The debut album from Ella Grace is an immediate contender for album of the year. It's a collection of eleven gripping, warm tracks that kicks off with ‘Wannanumbawayhours’. It’s a funky slow burn that opens with thick bass and beautifully produced doo-wop vocals before introducing crisp drums and an almost psychedelic-pop landscape. By the end of the two-minute tune, we’ve reached the territory of thick textures and guitars that foreshadow the eclecticism of the full-length. On the album, she explains: “This album represents the end of pretending, it’s a liberation for me, a becoming. Last year I fell in love with a woman and realised I’d been pretending to be someone I wasn’t. In place of that pretending rushed in these very real, raw parts of me. The album tells that story, of falling in love with a woman, discovering myself again, and the surrender that comes with heartbreak.” Check out Reverence as soon as you can. -Dan Peeke
